We are very pleased to announce that GBA has grown the family by expanding our services in Germany with the recent purchase of logistics company Mondo on July 19th. We welcome all Mondo’s employees who have now joined us and will complement the current team in Germany by driving growth in Europe’s largest industrial and logistics market and contribute to GBA ‘s 10-year vision. Most of the customers are located at Frankfurt Airport and specialises in the transportation of dangerous goods including explosives, the automotive industry and the textile industry (shop deliveries with Levi’s products).

Mondo has its own fleet with a total of six trucks, from 7.5 to 40 tonne trucks, and they organise the rest via a subcontractor fleet.

GBA Sponsors Young Racing Winner

GBA Sponsors Young Racing Winner.

This year GBA is sponsoring a young racing driver with incredible potential – Angus Whiteside. Angus drives a Ginetta GTA racing car, and as you can see the car looks amazing. Angus drives in the Ginetta GTA Academy, and this is his first year of racing at this level.

I was extremely lucky to go and watch Angus racing at Donnington Park races close to East Midlands airport. Angus was up against some very experienced drivers, but he managed to come second in the first race, and he won the second race.

The racing was intense, and Angus was in 4th place at the first corner, and after this he gradually worked his way through the field. It was only on the last lap of the race that Angus performed a highly skilled manoeuvre to put him in first place. This was his first ever outright win, and you can see the emotions on his face.

Leadership changes at GBA announced

Leadership changes at GBA announced.

David J. Birkbeck has released the following statement regarding changes of the Leadership at GBA.

‘I am really pleased to share with you an exciting change to the leadership within GBA. Firstly, I will be stepping down as Managing Director and changing my role to that of Executive Chairman. This will allow me to focus on the company’s vision, strategic direction and further strengthening of our values.

It makes me proud to announce my great friend and colleague Peter Zak will be taking the reins as Managing Director of GBA. Peter has a long pedigree of leadership and has had senior roles with blue-chip companies throughout his career. He will be leading the GBA Senior Management team, taking responsibility for all the departments, divisions and companies. Please join me in congratulating Peter as he leads the company into a new era.

Peter has had a long and varied career. After gaining a degree in Accounting he worked in the Aerospace, Automotive and Pharmaceutical sectors. Nine years at Toyota Manufacturing taught him the benefits of process control and continuous improvement. His positions of Finance Director and Operations Director at Leyland Trucks gave him exposure to managing a wide variety of teams across the organisation. He has also benefited from overseas experience and cultural immersion, having worked in Belgium, the USA and lived for four years in France. Peter finished his professional education at Cranfield School of Management successfully completing the Cranfield General Management Program.’

David J. Birkbeck, Executive Chairman

‘I am proud to be asked to be the Managing Director of GBA. During my career I have worked for some huge companies in the UK, Europe and also the USA, but I can honestly say that my almost eight years at GBA have been the most challenging (in a good way), rewarding and exciting of my life. I am grateful to the entire Birkbeck family for making me feel so welcome from day one.

It is my strong intention to continue with the culture and values that have served us so well in the past. Although leaders may change and reporting lines move around in an organisation, in my opinion the most important thing we can do is to live out our vales every day, and to give all our employees the opportunity to contribute in the best way they can.’

Peter Zak, Managing Director

GBA Invest in 20 New Tiger Trailers.

GBA are proud to announce the investment into twenty brand-new trailers from industry-leading bespoke provider, Tiger Trailers.

The order includes 10 quantities of 4.8m Tallboy trailers and 4.2m curtainsiders trailers each, featuring clearspan, pillarless roof designs, designed and built at the Tiger Trailers’ depot in Cheshire.

David J. Birkbeck, GBA Services’ Managing Director/Owner said:

“We look forward to a fruitful partnership with Tiger Trailers. They gave us a VIP tour of the factory to see the state-of-the-art facility and high-class standard that goes into making their trailers great and took delivery of our twenty-truck order.”

GBA Fleet Manager, Mark Hailwood, added:

“Tiger Trailers has always been accommodating to GBA from the enquiry stage right the way through to delivery. Handling specific complex requirements across two trailer models with ease, we already have six of our 20 trailers fully operational. This further increases our capacity and flexibility to meet our customer’s needs.”

The new 13.6m curtainsider trailers will augment GBA’s existing fleet, blending toughness and durability with flexibility of access while complying with the EN 12642-XL standard for load securing – a vital requirement for operating on today’s roads.

Tiger Trailers provides customers with added value by means of its consultative approach, the expert team of highly skilled designers, coachbuilders, finishers and finance specialists treating each customer as individual with unique requirements to ensure that the entire process from conceptualisation and manufacture through to testing, completion and funding is as tailored and seamless as possible.

Tiger Trailers’ Technical Sales Manager, Tom Stott, said:

“We are delighted to have made this first step in a hopefully enduring relationship of contributing to their continued expansion and success as a logistics specialist that provides an impressive portfolio of time-critical, temperature-controlled, hazardous freight and on occasion fascinating high-security solutions throughout Europe.”
